If you didn’t know by now, we’ve once again partnered with The Weather Network to help you prepare for unexpected, crazy weather. You just never know when it may sneak up on you! We created these Emergency Preparedness Tips with inspiration from redcross.ca/ready.

11. Know how your childcare provider will contact your family during an emergency.

12. Make sure your childcare provider has up-to-date contact information for you, caregivers & designated people.

13. Connect with a support network that understands your special health care needs. Write down the details.

14. If you have small children, include baby bottles, formula & diapers in your emergency kit.

15. Add a change of clothes for each family member & adjust according to the season.

Emergency Preparedness Tips with The Weather Network [6-10]

March of Dimes Canada has once again partnered with The Weather Network to provide you with some useful Emergency Preparedness Tips to help you prepare for unpredictable weather this winter season. The tips were created with inspiration from redcross.ca/ready.

The next 5 tips are as follows:

7. Have cash on hand during power outages. Credit card & Interac systems may not work.

8. Have an adequate supply of fuel in your vehicle in case evacuation is needed in an emergency.

9. Have a plan to connect with family members if you are not together.

10. Identify which people in your neighborhood are vulnerable and may need help.

Emergency Preparedness Tips with The Weather Network [1-5]

Since 2016, March of Dimes Canada and The Weather Network has partnered together to help spread awareness of what you can do to prepare for unexpected weather during the unpredictable winter season. We worked on creating Emergency Preparedness Tips inspired by information available from redcross.ca/ready.

This year, we’re happy to provide these tips once again, and this time as blog entries so you can easily share and refer back to in the future. Please see the first 5 tips that we’re sharing for the period of Jan 1 – Jan 31. 

Emergency Preparedness Tips [1-5]

1. Pay attention to alerts and be prepared to evacuate.

2. Include medications, prescriptions, cash, and insurance papers in your evacuation kit.

3. Store your emergency go-kit in an accessible location near an exit.

4. Prepare for your pet or service animal’s basic needs: food, water and other supplies.

5. Have enough water and food on hand to last at least 72 hours.
